Where warm meets cold
It's been plain sailing so far with the last three days at sea under blue skies,
sunshine and sparkling water. Are we on a Caribbean Cruise?
Seawatching from the boat has added Slender-billed Prions and Northern Giant Petrels
to our list.
During the night we crossed the convergence zone where the (warmer) sub-Antarctic water
meets the (colder) Antarctic water, so were are now definitely in the Antarctic -yay!
Sadly now we have fog where the two temperatures meet so we are unable to see a lot,
but hopefully we break out of the fog later today as this is a productive seawatching zone.
There is a billiant team of experts on board, we've had excellent lectures each day on birds,
cetaceans, ice history of S. Georgia and the Falklands etc so lots to entertain us.
There is a library of books and DVD's and a constant stream of delicious meals and
snacks thanks to the executive chef- a talented lady from Wales of course, and her
superb team.
We're due to reach South Georgia tomorrow and will hopefully have our first landing.
We've had our Zodiac safety drill and have been given our Antarctic survival kit,
so we are good to go and looking forward to stepping on dry land!
Unfortunately we still have very limited access to Wi-Fi, enough to send some words,
but not to upload any of our own photos, so prepare for the onslaught when we return !
Hopefully we'll be able to blog again soon, so check back for news.
