Best Of Anglesey Birdwatching Trips Day Tour 1 October 2021

Great Skua - AKA Bonxie - are wonderfully powerful birds - libaray photo.
Alan met John and Ann near Menai Bridge on Anglesey at 8.30am on the 1st of October and they headed for RSPB South Stack. Great birds and stunning scenery is always a good combination and as always this lovely area produced great birds. Then down to Holyhead where the sheltered harbour was great to enjoy Black Guillemot. Then up to Cemlyn for some exciting sea watching in the strong winds where Great Skua and Manx Shearwater were among the many birds whizzing past over the wild sea. Beddmanarch Bay produced a great selection of waders, gulls and Pale-bellied Brent Geese. A freshwater lake provided a very lucky encounter with a Bittern! Then down the west side of Anglesey to end the day at Newbrough Forest with a lovely mix of woodland and wetland birds. A really lovely fun day and we do hope to enjoy more birding with John and Ann again.
Highlights included – Red-billed Chough, Northern Wheatear, Black Guillemot, Razorbill, Common Guillemot, Black-legged Kittiwake, Northern Gannet, Manx Shearwater, Red-throated Diver, Great Skua, Common Greenshank, Red Knot, European Golden Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit, Pale-bellied Brent Goose, Barn Swallow, Bittern, Kingfisher, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, Mediterranean Gull, Sandwich Tern – 77 species enjoyed.
