Birding Around The Colourful Town Of Vinales Cuba Lots To See

The lovely town of Vinales in western Cuba – so colourful.
Our first base on our Birdwatching Trip in Cuba was near the delightful town of Vinales in western Cuba, an area know for its scenic beauty and great birds. Limestone outcrops, known as “mogotes”, are a feature of this lovely corner of Cuba and the houses are often painted in bright colours giving the area a wonderful happy friendly feel. The area was once a wine growing area but no longer, tobacco is the main crop here now. The birding began at our lovely hotel where we watched stunning Cuban Trogons right by the entrance gate! The area across the road was explored on foot and we took a short drive to an area of farmland and “mogotes” where we added even more great birds. We also visited the town of Vinales to do a bit of sight seeing and some shopping, we encountered our first Cuban Martins here in the the colourful town. The photo opportunities never end in Cuba, everywhere you look there is a photo waiting to be taken and with the sunshine and blue skies we all took a lot of pictures.
