Uganda Known As The Pearl Of Africa Come And See Why

The Shoebill perhaps THE bird to see in Uganda, easy to see why!

We have been so lucky to spend over eight weeks in Uganda over two amazing trips. Our first trip in 2016 was a fact finding mission at the invitation of the Uganda Tourists Board and what an eye-opener that visit proved to be!

You can see from Ruth’s face, a magical never to be forgotten moment!

We knew that Uganda held mountain gorillas and the enigmatic Shoebill, two huge draws for wildlife seeking tourists but we had no idea how much more Uganda had to offer. The variety of habitats, and resulting wildlife, really blew us away! This safe and very friendly country has great hotels and lodges and wonderful food, we soon realised that Uganda really is “The Pearl of Africa” it ticks all the boxes a wildlife lover could possibly want.

During our time in Uganda we have been privileged to visit the mountain gorillas, an unforgettable wildlife experience. The gorillas are so gentle and to sit just feet from them in the forest is just magical, one of our very best wildlife moments, no the best.

We have explored the vast papyrus swamps and gazed at the bizarre Shoebill with its Dutch clog for a bill! There can be few more bizarre and wonderful birds than the Shoebill. Each encounter has thrilled us, and our guests, these are real dinosaur birds and another huge highlight of your visit to Uganda. These swamps are teaming with birds and it is a magical experience to glide silently through the marsh in a dug-out canoe with our local guides.

But there is so much more! We visited open savannah grasslands with herds of antelope, elephants, giraffe and tree climbing lions! A real African safari experience, staying in wonderful lodges with hippos outside our bedrooms and African Fish Eagles overhead, just fantastic wildlife watching. We watched African Finfoot, a rare grebe like bird, on boat trips where we marvelled at so many birds and mammals. Boat trips are real feature of our trips in Uganda, a very relaxing way to watch the wildlife and provide wonderful photo opportunities too. We were able to enjoy really close views of Rock Pratincoles, Papyrus Gonoleks, Giant Kingfishers and families of elephants what a thrill.

We enjoyed wonderful views of these gorgeous Rock Pratincoles.

If you are thinking of taking a very special trip to Africa we can’t recommend Uganda highly enough it really does have it all! We would love you to join us on our next Birdwatching (and mammal) Trip to “The Pearl of Africa” in December 2020. For full details of this mind-blowing wildlife adventure please email us here….
